Tampa Hurricane Windows

It’s always sunny in Tampa, Florida. Except when it isn’t. Thankfully, the hurricane season doesn’t come around until June 1st and, while it usually lasts until the end of November, direct hits from hurricanes and tropical storms to Tampa and the surrounding areas are rare.

Even so, if you live in this area of the state, especially near the coastal regions, you understand the importance of installing hurricane resistant windows in your home, retail business or commercial property. High wind and rain thunderstorms, tropical storms, and even tornados can pop up at any time with just the right combination of temperature, warm moist air near the ground, cooler air aloft, and a dramatic change in wind speed or direction.

Keeping Your Family Safe

At Carrollwood Window & Door we offer several options for hurricane resistant windows. PGT WinGuard Impact Resistant Windows are shatter proof and will keep the wind, rain, and flying debris out of your home. PGT has millions of windows installed every year with no reported impact failures. And to top it off, they are 100% made in America!

We also offer Custom Window Systems Wind-Pact Plus windows to protect your home from hurricane force winds, rain, and flying debris. And because wind that blows into a home or business through shattered windows can cause a roof to lift off the home, these vinyl impact windows can also help you protect the integrity of your roof.

There’s a reason why all new construction in the state of Florida must have either high impact hurricane windows and doors or hurricane shutters installed in order to be up to Code. If your building is located within one mile of the Gulf of Mexico coastline where wind speeds can get as high as 140 mph or greater, perhaps it’s time to consider installing hurricane resistant windows. And high impact windows can keep your family safe as well.

Why Are Impact Resistant Windows Better?

In order to withstand wind-borne debris from flying into your home or business, broken and shattered windows, or even to avoid break-ins, high impact windows are made with heavy-duty frames and laminated glass carefully sealed to keep the glass from breaking away from the frame.

High impact hurricane windows are constructed with two layers of laminated glass bonded together with a special inter or middle layer of clear polyvinyl butyral, a resin used for applications that require a strong binding, optical clarity, toughness, and flexibility. On the other hand, single pane conventional glass windows offer very little protection and can be easily shattered.

When construction of the windows is completed, they are tested against small and large projectiles that are purposefully aimed at the windows at up to 200 mph to make sure they can withstand the impact and that they meet stringent Florida building codes. These windows also reduce outside noises, and they provide a secure barrier against home invasion.

They also allow natural light to enter your home or business during a storm (as opposed to most hurricane shutters), decrease harmful UV rays from getting into your home and discoloring your rugs, window treatments, or furniture, and they reduce the likelihood of damage entering your home or business through the windows. Additionally, you should qualify for better home insurance premiums when you install impact windows for a higher level of protection.

According to weather experts, any high winds entering through compromised or completely broken windows or doors can create dangerous pressure inside a home that may destabilize the integrity of the walls and roof. In addition, wind and water entering through windows and doors can lead to severe and costly damage to your entire structure.
